Analytical Study of Stress Distributions around Screws in Flat Mandibular Bone under In-Plane Loading

A known complication for mechanically loaded bone implants is the instability due to screw loosening, resulting in infection and non-union of fractures. To investigate eventually prevent such degradation, it useful know stress state around screw. Considering only in-plane loadings simplifying mandibular into an orthotropic laminated plate, analysis was reduced a two-dimensional pin-loaded plate problem. An analytic model, based on complex analysis, introduced biomechanics field obtain distributions hole bone. The dimensionless normalized stresses were found be relatively insensitive locations over mandible. Parametric analyses carried out regarding friction coefficient load direction. It that direction had negligible influence. On contrary, significant effect distributions. Whether well bonded or not thus played important role. proposed model could potentially used study failure together with stress-based criteria.
